That is why his book is full of beautiful wisdom, such as “If you’re not hungry enough to eat an apple, you’re probably not hungry” or “Avoid foods you see advertised on television”. Food Rules is what the name says: a collection of rules for a healthy relationship with food. “The central teaching is that eating doesn’t have to be so complicated, and food is as much about pleasure and communion as it is about nutrition and health.” The author sees his collection of rules as “a completely different way to fix the health care crisis”. I agree that maybe what we all need are some simple rules to follow because we all know that eating better would improve our health.
There is another good side of the book: if you are the undecisive kind, this might be just what you need. “Whether at the supermarket or an all-you-can-eat buffet, this is the perfect guide for anyone who ever wondered, ‘What should I eat?”.
